The Day I Jumped Out Of A Plane... by Louise O'Boyle
On the 2nd May 2009 at 8.30am, I arrived at Headcorn Airfield to register for my tandem skydive. I had signed up for a sponsored parachute jump for the MS Society and finally the day had arrived! It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for the jump.
We were taken into the training room and shown the equipment that was being used and just how strong the straps that were going to hold us are! By this point I was really excited.
After the training, I simply had to wait for my name to be called. Luckily my family and friends had arrived to support me and watch my jump. We watched the first lot of jumps and they were brilliant! It looked amazing.
Finally my name was called. I was given my suit and fetching hat and googles and led up to the plane. By this point I was nervous and excited and I boarded the plane to find that I was the only novice skydiver there!
The plane climbed to 12,000 ft, the doors opened and the experts jumped out.
My turn. As I was dangling out of the plane, 12,000ft up held on only by some straps I couldn't help but look down, the view was breath-taking. Jumping out of the plane was the best bit and free falling at 180 mph is incredible!
The whole experience was brilliant, the most amazing thing ever!! I definitely want to do it again.
